2007
This year I have been on two contracts, as well as various smaller freelance projects.
¥ Walden Media (March - May 07)
Walden Media is a film company that has produced such hits as "The Chronicles of Narnia - Lion, Witch & the Wardrobe", "The Bridge to Terabithia", and "Charlotte's Web". I worked in the Boston office which is responsible for Education, Outreach, and Interactive Development in connection with the Walden movies.
My job duties included the development of a complete Flash game - "Skipping Stone on Walden Pond", overhaul of a Flash movie player, and reskinning existing Flash games to integrate into the Walden Media website.
¥ Digitas (June 07 - present)
Digitas is an international advertising company specializing in interactive media solutions. Clients include GM, American Express, Home Depot, and Sara Lee.
My job duties include producing interactive Flash animations from Photoshop comps. The resulting animations are used for online advertising on the highest traffic websites.
2006
I produced two major video
projects for schools this year. One was the creation of a DVD hilighting a day
in the life of a preschool student for a Montessori school (running time 28
minutes). I shot, edited and produced the DVD singlehandedly. The second was a
CDROM distributed to prospective students of Quincy College. I combined
existing footage with new footage into a 5 minute video. I created a Flash
projector that contained admissions information and the video that I produced.
For this project I coordinated with the school director and the marketing
department.
I worked on several
animation projects using Flash and Actionscript this year. The most significant
was 2 months of onsite work for a company developing a Flash-based interactive
game for kids (target preK-1st grade). This Actionscript intensive work
consisted of coding the interactivity for a Leapfrog product linked to a
Disney/Pixar movie release in 2007.
2004-2005
In 2004-2005 I worked on
two major Flash development projects. The first was an Immune System game that
relied heavily on Actionscript. The client supplied me with a preliminary
storyboard and sketches of the characters. I developed the graphics, layout,
and implemented the code. The objects are placed on the scene dynamically and
their movement and interaction are calculated in the Actionscript code. I have
an example of this code; this project is featured on my website.
The second project, also on
my website, is an animation synchronized with a musical score. I worked with a
graphic artist to do the storyboard, and I was supplied with some of the
photographs. After that I was the sole Flash developer. The trick of this project
was how to match the animation to the music since the speed of the animation is
affected by the internet bandwidth. I developed a method in Actionscript so
that the animation was tied to cue points in the music. I used graphical loops
in the embedded in the movieclips so that the animation would always be moving,
thus creating a fluid movie for a variety of download bandwidths.
I also shot and produced a
DVD for IRCAM at the Pompidou Center for the Arts. The resulting film described
the creation of a musical composition game. I interviewed the scientists
involved and shot footage of the children interacting with the installation at
the art center.
